“Good design, when it’s done well, becomes invisible.  It’s only when it’s done poorly that we notice it”. Jared Spool

Using a vinyl LP record in an artistic representation can be a creative and interesting way to repurpose and showcase these vintage music mediums.  This is just what The Junk Bar in Ashgrove have done.   Using a vinyl LP record image in creative design projects can add a retro and nostalgic touch to your work – this is just the feel you get when you walk into The Junk Bar – it takes you back in time, even the music played here fits in with the retro and nostalgic vibe.

The Junk Bar at Ashgrove has created this feel wonderfully.  The Vintage Aesthetic feel, embraces the vintage vibe of vinyl records by incorporating a record images into their design with a retro aesthetic. This has worked well for their branding and promotion for their businesses.  This vintage theme is continued within their establishment and is what gives their clients the unique feel they love so much.

This also gave me the opportunity to take this wonderful image into Photoshop and transform this image by giving it a textural look & feel.

One of my favourite things to do is snap pictures of great examples of Graphic Design.  It doesn’t matter if it’s just an image, marketing billboard, bus poster, the promotion on the back of a van, posters pinned up on walls.  You name it, if it catches my eye – I have my camera out.  This is a good way for designers to collect ideas & inspiration.  I have found that it’s definately true what the American writer and researcher, Jared Spool once said “Good design, when it’s done well, becomes invisible.  It’s only when it’s done poorly that we notice it”.   My brain starts the alarm bells ringing and my eye cannot look away.  Especially when there is bad typography involved – that which is illegible.  Too often as I’m driving 60km along the road, my eyes taking in my surroundings – suddenly I see a sign and my eyes start reading – with only seconds to do this, if the typography is an over the top display font or handwritten – what chances do I have of reading the sign.  Worst still some signs have far too much text, causing over crowding and over working my brain.

That’s why I think I like this Junk Bar LP record – it’s simple, contains a great image depicting the main point of interest and there is very little text.  Yet again an image tells the story.  Love it!
